Human Impact (members of Unsane, Cop Shoot Cop, & Swans) Release Video Of “E605” From Upcoming Debut

The project, Human impact brings together some impressive names from the history of experimental noise rock, hardcore, and industrial music to form a new group with a sound that is both reflective of the individual members’ past, while remaining incredibly vibrant, current, and alive.  Comprised of Chris Spencer (Unsane, UXO) on vocals/guitar; Jim Coleman (Cop Shoot Cop) handling electronics; bassist, Chris Pravdica (Swans, Xiu Xiu), and Phil Puleo (Cop Shoot Cop, Swans) behind the drumkit; the four piece will release their self-titled debut through Mike Patton‘s Ipecac Records on March 13th.  Production duties are shared by Coleman and Spencer with recording done at BC Studios by Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, John Zorn, Bootsy Collins), who not only has a notable history in noise rock, but, specifically, with Cop Shoot Cop, who previously put out a DVD titled, Live At Martin Bisi Studios 1993.

Today, the New York outfit releases the video for “E605,” their second track from the upcoming LP. Samuel Mitchell directs the stark, washed-out black and white footage in the setting of a concrete basement.  Glitching intermittently, the video compliments the cinematic output of the group, which evokes imagery of a bleak dystopian future and surveillance state through it’s instrumentation alone.  The sonics are very on brand for the respective players and the influential bands that they came out of, but those not familiar enough with a names like Unsane, let alone their music, might understandably hear some elements that remind them of Helmet in this track, possibly Jesus Lizard, or even random sprinklings that are reminiscent of early TOOL recordings.  Meanwhile, Coleman‘s synth sets the tone with a foundation that feels very John Carpenter-esque.  In other words, they’ve still got it.  And while many “supergroups” may come across as if they were pushed together in a less-than-organic way to simply capitalize off of name recognition; or are possibly the product of a misguided but well-intentioned idea, that simply doesn’t come together as well as the members had hoped it would — and, sometimes, may even believe it has — Human Impact feels incredibly natural in every sense of the word.  The members and what they bring into the project blends seamlessly as a unit.  Everything about this project makes perfect sense.  Including the timing.

Human Impact has an album release show scheduled for March 14 at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn. The event marks only the band’s 2nd live performance to date.  Tickets can be purchased at HERE.
