Back in 1996, when the Boston duo of DJ 7L & Emcee Esoteric began generating attention with their single “Secret Wars,” as 2/3 of the outfit God Complex, there wasn’t an overwhelming number of lyricists spewing out verses that were densely packed with superhero comic references.  That being said, this was the same year that the WU Tang Clan‘s Ghostface Killah (aka “Tony Starks”) released his first solo album under the title of Iron ManThree years later, 7L and Eso would collaborate with fellow Wu Tang member, Inspectah Deck when he was featured on the title track of their debut EPSpeaking Real Words.  That very same year, Image Comics would actually introduce a Wu Tang title.  The Rebel INS eventually caught up with them again, popping up on the Bostonians2010 joint, “12th Chamber,” before the trio resurfaced under the collective moniker of Czarface.  Represented by a caped, metallic bodied anti-hero/mascot, of sorts, sent to save hip hop; the visual manifestation of CZARFACE the character, was rendered by artist, Lamour Supreme, in a style that gives a nod to classic silver age illustrators like the legendary Jack Kirby.  When the group dropped their self-titled debut in 2013, Ghostface appeared on the standout track “Savagely Attack.”  This Friday, February 15th, Ghost will finally join 7L, ESO, and Deck for a full-on 12-track collaborative effort.

This new CZARFACE x GFK team-up, CZARFACE meets GHOSTFACE follows last year’s similarly conceived CZARFACE meets METAL FACE, which saw the CZAR boys going head-to-head with the super villain emcee, MF DOOM.  Bafflingly enough, it is actually Ghostface Killah and DOOM that have been promising their own collaborative album as DOOMSTARKS for years, without any successful follow through.  Whether it’s because the long awaited project has been built up too much, or it’s due to an obsession over quality control, or both, we have no idea, but whatever CZARFACE did to pull off albums with each of them, individually, in back-to-back years, it’s appreciated.

CZARFACE meets GHOSTFACE will feature production by The Czar-Keys (7L & Jeremy Page), with Lamour Supreme returning to supply the dynamic cover art.  The latest single from the upcoming album is “Mongolian Beef,” presented through a brand new video animated directed by Shawn A. Johnson (Nektr).  Check it out below.  CZARFACE meets GHOSTFACE can be pre-ordered on various formats via GetOnDown.com, now.
