Since their debut exhibit with the Wes Anderson-themed Bad Dads show,  Spoke Art has hosted similar tributes to influential filmmakers from The Coen Brothers, and David Lynch to Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, and Stanley Kubrick.  Last year, the gallery honored the legendary Japanese master of animation, Hayao Miyazaki, in similar fashion, first with a group exhibit at their flagship location in San Francisco and, later in the year, with a 3-day pop-up show at their space in New York City.  This Friday, they return with their latest installment in the form of another 3-day pop-up show, but this time in Southern California.  More specifically, the “Miyazaki In Los Angeles” art show will be held at the Building Bridges Art Exchange in Santa Monica.

As a film director, producer, screenwriter, animator, author and manga artist, the co-founder of Studio Ghibli film and animation studio, Miyazaki is the man behind such critically acclaimed and beloved films as My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, and is considered by many to be the “world’s greatest animator.”  This latest exhibit will feature over 130 artists of various disciplines offering their own takes on the filmmaker’s work by filtering it through their own unique aesthetics and various mediums, including sculpture, paintings, paper cuts, embroideries, limited edition prints, and more.
