Thys & Amon Tobin Collaborate On New GHOSTCARDS EP

A pair of electronic wizards team up for a transcendental 4-song EP of beautiful, mesmerizing soundscapes ideal for these uncertain times

After an 8-year gap since his last official studio album, Amon Tobin returned last year and hit the ground running.  The big news for the Brazilian-born producer wasn’t simply that he finally had a new proper full-length under his belt, but that the album, Fear In A Handful Of Dust would mark the first release under Tobin‘s brand new record label, NOMARK.  He followed up on that LP by using a new bandcamp feature to crowdfund the vinyl pressing of a an album titled Time To Run under the moniker of Only Child Tyrant.  According to the electronic pioneer, it was comprised of tracks that he’d put together both casually and organically over a period of time between working on other material that he “may well have been overthinking.”  Tobin would later tap the bandcamp crowdfunding method again for the Fear In A Handful Of Dust companion album, Long Stories.  Beyond that, 2019 saw him releasing a few random singles from his Two Fingers side project, and another pair of tracks from his early work under the CUJO alias, which were made exclusive to those who paid for a yearly NOMARK digital subscription.

As a longtime fan, it’s not only great to see Amon return, but also to be delivering semi-regular output.  It makes one wonder would could be on the horizon for 2020, especially with the state that the world is in at the moment.  What’s great is that, if Tobin made something today — with the fact that he has his own label and alternate methods to release material with the platforms and technology available — it means that it could be made available within a matter of moments or hours, if he decided that he wanted to go that route.  One thing that we’ve noticed is that, much of this last chunk of his catalog seemed to arrive with little to no real prior notice.  His latest drop is no different.

Tonight, Amon Tobin just posted a beautiful 4-song collaborative EP with Danish musician/Noisia member, Thys, over on his bandcamp pageGhostcards is only about 10 ethereal minutes long, but these soothing, penetrating, soundscapes are the perfect tonic to re-calibrate everything that’s threatening to come loose within your withering duct taped soul during these fragile unstable and disconnected moments of warbling uncertainty. Exfoliate your gently hissing mind. Lay your kerosene soaked cardboard frame in a sweet pool of unicorn milk.  Stop time and buoy like a deprivation tank.
