CONTEST HAS ENDED!  Thanks to everyone who entered.  The winner has been contacted.  We outsourced the decision making to our Parks and Rec/Ron Swanson expert and he chose “WHALES: majestic giants of the sea” because it was the only answer that he could really imagine him saying.

Please add us on Facebook and keep an eye peeled for more giveaways in the future.  There are some good ones coming up.

You may be wondering 2 things right now.  The first being, “Who is Nick Offerman?” and the other being, “Why is there a picture of Ron Swanson on here?”  What if I told you that they were one and the same?  Sometimes an actor is so successful in a role that it’s difficult to separate them from the character that they play on television.  A supporting character can be so widely embraced that it gains somewhat of a cult status, becoming even larger than the Television program that they’re on, itself– think Will & Grace‘s Karen Walker, played by Offerman‘s real life wife Megan Mullally, or Henry Winkler‘s role as Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli from Happy Days.  [Both actors now star on the Adult Swim program, Childrens Hospital, of which Offerman has been a reoccurring guest].  Then there are times when a characteristic associated with that role can even transcend the characters themselves–Offerman‘s mustache is the equivalent of Fonzie‘s leather jacket or Dwayne Wayne‘s flip-up lenses and, at some point, deserves to find itself in a television hall of fame.

But while there are some definite aspects related to Swanson that have been merged with and stem from the man that portrays him-Offerman is, indeed, an accomplished fine woodworker with a mustache–Nick is an actor (and now writer/director/producer), who had already been in the entertainment business for quite a while, before taking on his breakthrough role on the NBC‘s Emmy-nominated Parks and Recreation in 2009.  Over the years, he’s appeared on such high profile television programs as ER, Gilmore Girls, The Practice, and NYPD Blue, held a multi-episode run on 24, a reoccurring role on The George Lopez show, and was the co-star of the short-lived, Seth Green-produced American Body Shop on Comedy Central.  He’s also landed roles in such films as Sin City, Wristcutters, and The Men Who Stare At GoatsOfferman is the co-founder of the Chicago-based theater company, Defiant Theatre, and has worked with other Chicago area theater companies like the Tony Award-winning, Steppenwolf and Goodman, which is the city’s “oldest currently active nonprofit theater organization.”  Nick originaly met improv comedienne/former-SNL cast member/Parks and Rec star, Amy Poehler, around this time, who some of us might remember as one of the 4 stars/troupe members behind the Upright Citizens Brigade sketch comedy program that was birthed out of Chicago‘s improvOlympic theater and who, later, went on to found the UCB improv theaters in NY, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

But enough of the jibber-jabber, the whole point of this, beyond the fact that Nick Offerman is a multi-talented all-around performer, is that he’s taking his select-city “American Ham Tour” on the road, and, most importantly, that we’re giving a way a free pair of tickets to see him in when he comes to Seattle‘s Moore Theatre on March 21st.  So… how about stepping up your game folks and trying to win them?

  1. STARS: The only appropriate time for gazing is upon the death of a family member, preferably with a glass of whiskey. Never, ever wish upon one. That’s childish nonsense.
