MAD DECENT Stimulus Package : Free SOUTH RAKKUS CREW album Download

If you agree with Time Magazine and the T-Shirts that DJ Shadow made available on his official website, the 2-Thousand-Oughts made up the “WORST DECADE EVER“.  Fortunately for us, the first week of this new year has already began to show itself as promising, at least in the realm of music.

Towards the end of the last decade, artists like M.I.A. and Santigold began to garner more widespread notoriety, along with producers Diplo and Switch, who have both worked with each of the vocalists.  2009 also marked a collaborative effort by Switch and Diplo, under the collective alias of “Major Lazer“, a cartoonic Jamaican zombie fighter with a laser-cannon for an arm and sporting military fatigues.  The project yielded Guns Don’t Kill People….Lazers Do, a dancehall album chock full of aggressive beats and endless cameos.  Today Diplo and his Mad Decent label have decided to keep the momentum rolling into the New Year and have provided a free full-length album download by the South Rawkkas Crew.

South Rawkkas Crew is, essentially, another collaborative project by a pair of super producers; Alex G. and “Dow” JonesSRC is known for their mix of electro and dancehall, as well as their production work for some of the most impressive names in dancehall music, including Beenie Man, Sizzla, and Bounty Killer.  Their latest album is titled The Stimulus Package, which I’m sure is due in part to it’s free availability and it’s ability to inspire forbidden gyrations of daggering.  Much like Major Lazer, this latest SRC release is packed with energy and a collection of impressive cameos.  Along with vocal contributions by seasoned veterans to the genre, such as Capleton, The Stimulus Package also features such surprises as an appearance by Deerhoof.

In case this, and the fact that the album is absolutely free, isn’t enough to prompt you to get a copy, here’s a sample track called “Choo Choo Beep Beep” featuring Deerhoof and Mr. Dockery.  [If you are a Deerhoof fan, you may recognize pieces from their song “+81“]

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Located in Seattle, Dead C is the founder/editor, as well as the principal writer and photographer, of Monster Fresh. Creating the site in 2007, he did so with a specific dream in mind. Unfortunately, being a muscle relaxer-fueled fever dream, it's hard to recall all of the details. "I remember that my mom was there, but it wasn't actually her in the dream, it was actually 70s heart throb, Jan Michael Vincent. And everything took place here, in this room... but it wasn't actually here... it was different. The colors were washed out and, for some reason, there was a raccoon kicking it with us and it was wearing a holographic monocle."
