The Return of TONY CLIFTON! TICKET GIVEAWAY [SEATTLE]

October 4, 2010 in Comedy, Music, With Video

CONTEST HAS ENDED!

Controversial lounge singer Tony Clifton returns to the stage again to prove that he isn’t a completely washed-up entertainer once and for all.  The tour makes it’s stop at Seattle‘s Triple Door on Friday, October 8th and should be an exciting night of “music”, “comedy”, and, most importantly, unabashed verbal assaults on you, the audience members.  Here’s your chance to see Clifton live and, with the helps of our friends at Square Peg Concerts, we will be sending one lucky winner to the show with a free pair of tickets.  It’s about time, too; his alter-ego, Andy Kaufman only died 26 years ago.

Sasquatch Music Festival 2010 – The Hustle & Dodging the Ticket Game

June 11, 2010 in Music, PSA, Reviews, The Web

Keeping with the tradition started in 2002, the 9th annual Sasquatch Music Festival was again held at the Gorge Amphitheater in the city of George, Wa over memorial day weekend.  I had my media pass for coverage solidified, but my lady, Kim, didn’t have one and I hadn’t exactly locked down my transportation situation for how I had planned to get to there.  This, of course, was in keeping with our own tradition of doing everything half-sketch.  Time was winding down, so I needed to crank the “hustle” dial up to 11.  As stated in our previous piece about this year’s Sasquatch, a key element of our coverage will address the festival experience from the perspective of an attendee and not just as a “reporter”.  That element will come into play now, as I talk about getting your broke ass to the show, dodging ticket scams, and working the hustle in your favor.

STEP ONE:  The Ride

A week before the festival,  friend/artist, Thea Wolfe (creator of the WEEN coloring book) had a farewell party before her big move down to the Hollywood area.  Unfortunately, this meant that we wouldn’t be kicking it during the WEEN set at the festival, as planned.  On the upside, I met someone at the party who offered to give Kim and I a ride up there.  This actually worked out remarkably well, but I will refer more to that later, during the actual day by day reviews.  The main point is that carpooling isn’t necessarily a bad avenue to take. CONAN LIVE TOUR (It’s Legit Folks!)… & he’s performing at Bonnaroo?

March 11, 2010 in Comedy, Global Destruction, Movies / Television, Music

It was either a massive 30-city tour or start helping out around the house
- Conan O’Brien

By now, most people know all about the drama surrounding Conan O’Brien finally getting the Tonight Show spot and then, more or less, slowly being pushed from the position that he had dreamed about obtaining for so long.  Details and opinions can me mixed but, when it’s all said and done, it doesn’t matter.  The Tonight Show has lost their credibility and Conan has gained even more of it throughout this entire fiasco.  Jay Leno still comes across as your parents friend who tells bad jokes like, “Working hard or hardly working?“, as he took his role back entertaining the elderly with insomnia.

Recently there have been many rumors about what would be 8 foot Irishman‘s next move.  The rumor with the biggest hype behind it was that the former talkshow host/comedy writer my be going on a multi-city live tour.  Due to legally binding stipulations in his exit contract with NBC, which would prevent him from appearing in a talk show spot with any other station for months, this would be a great way for O’Brien to sustain his momentum and remain in the public eye in the meantime.  Well, this is now officially much more than a rumor, as tickets for the tour went live this morning.

Being marketed as, “A night of music, comedy, hugging, and the occasional awkward silence“, the 30 city tour kicks off on April 12th in Eugene, OR and ends on June 14th at the FOX theatre in Atlanta, GA.  Perhaps even more surprising than the tour itself, however,  is the information that it will include a stop at the Bonaroo Music Festival in Manchester, TN.  The press release states that the live comedy/music review “will include longtime sidekick Andy Richter and the former Tonight Show band” however, word is that Max Weinberg will not be part of it.

Get your tickets fast, because these spots are bound to disappear quickly.

WIN a Pair of Tickets to Wolfmother in Seattle (Friday 11.20.09)

November 16, 2009 in Music

wolfmother

Last I knew of Wolfmother, 2 of the 3 original members left and were touring as part of the new Kid Koala project, The Slew (highly recommended).  I assumed that was it for the band, however, shortly after seeing The Slew live, I began hearing the name Wolfmother again everywhere that I looked.  Apparently, frontman, Andrew Stockdale got himself a whole new rhythm section and busted out a whole new album.  The Cosmic Egg is already being well received and the new lineup/material seems to be garnering rave reviews, from fans and critics alike.  My mind’s been buzzing like a nitrous hit, with all the shit I’ve been dealing with, and in all honesty, I really don’t know what’s going on with the Australian rock revivalists.  Just because we haven’t listened to the new album and haven’t had an opportunity to form an opinion about their current incarnation, doesn’t mean that we can’t kick down a pair of tickets to one of you fans out there that desperately wants to experience their sonic onslaught live.  Shit, one thing that we are sure of is that these guys put on a high energy performance.  If you are already a fan of their music, they will definitely be worth seeing live in person, so…..

Troubador, Will Oldham (aka: Bonnie “Prince” Billy) has performed and released albums under various different pseudonyms including, Palace and Palace Music.
