SPOKE ART @ NY Comic Con: Bad Dads Round 3 / Tim Doyle’s Unreal Estate 2 [PREVIEWS]

Spoke Art travels to NY with early releases for the Wes Anderson themed BAD DADS exhibit and Tim Doyle’s Unreal Estate, comic-con exclusives, paintings and more

In 2010, San Francisco‘s SPOKE ART burst onto the scene with their Wes Anderson themed group exhibit, “BAD DADS,” taking the underground contemporary art world by storm, along with a fair share of film and/or art related blogs (this one included).  At the time, they hadn’t even solidified their permanent gallery space yet, but their vision was strong and there was absolutely no question that they were sure to become a permanent fixture themselves, with endless possibilities, inevitably, in their future.  Even now, SPOKE ART is much more than simply  a stationary art space.  Over the last two years, they’ve held exhibits in different cities and have even made their way into other states, curating work out on the East Coast.  They’ve introduced us to great artists, both through solo shows as well as through other unique and highly successful themed group exhibits, and have even become artist representatives for a select group of incredible talent.  Even through all of their success, there is still nothing more highly anticipated than BAD DADS and, now that it’s finally October again, it means that we’re only a couple of weeks away from the brand new third installment of the exhibit.  This year, however, we’re receiving our first glimpse of the show a little bit differently.

Starting tomorrow, October 11, you can visit the SPOKE ART crew at booth #3233 at the New York Comic Con.  Instead of waiting until the 26th, when BAD DADS 3 opens in full for its month long run at the SF gallery, a number of prints will be made available in advance during NYCC.  In fact, many of them will be con-exclusives, only available for attendees during the convention, which runs until the 14th.  If that’s not enough of a reason to stop by booth #3233, all prints, except for the one by Max Dalton, will feature the artists in attendance, signing prints for fans live.

You may also remember, at the beginning of the year, when we posted our coverage for Timothy Doyle‘s debut solo show, “Unreal Estate.”  The exhibit, which featured the print-maker exploring the impacts of fictional locations in pop-culture and our emotional attachment to them by treating them with more realistic renderings, was a tremendous achievement, both artistically and because he completely sold out of the work.  Last month at the Flat Stock poster art setup during the Bumbershoot festival, I was pleased to discover that Doyle would be revisiting the theme in another full exhibit for Spoke Art in February.  Later, through direct communication with Tim, I was informed that he had already been making some decent progress for the exhibit.  Now, the very first of these prints (along with a variant) will also be made available for the first time at the SPOKE ART comic con booth.

Aside from the Wes Anderson and Unreal Estate prints, the extra large 200 sq ft booth will also feature original paintings, artist designed apparel, sold out prints, and art books for sale.  Over the last year or so, SPOKE ART has also been working with San Francisco‘s Castro Theatre, releasing a number of movie posters that were created for specific screenings of various classic films.  Some of the sold-out prints from that Castro Theatre series will be available for purchase at the booth, as well.
